The League of Women Voters of Chaffee County will hold a candidates forum for the Buena Vista Board of Trustees in the Pinon Room of the Community Center this Monday, March 15, from 7 to 9 pm. The five candidates competing for four open trustee positions are Norm Nyberg, Duff Lacy, Carrie Carey, Mickey Russell, and Jerry Steinauer. Cara Russell is running unopposed for mayor. The April 6 election is by all-mail ballot, with the clerk’s office planning to send ballots out March 18. Please come with clearly written questions.

First-Time Homebuyer’s Workshop will be held on March 20th. This one-day workshop will be held at the UAACOG office, 3224 Independence Road, Cañon City, starting at 9:00 am and is free to the public. The workshop takes participants through the home buying process from loan application to loan closing and life as a homeowner. Through a program offered by their power supplier, Tri-State Generation & Transmission, they will ship the unbroken bulbs to be recycled by Veolia, a leader in recycling technology. The mercury, glass, and metals in the ballast are all recycled. Bring your bulbs to our headquarters and they’ll do the rest.

The Tenderfoot Cancer Climb is coming up Saturday May 1st beginning at Riverside Park in Salida. Come participate in this Fundraising event for the American Cancer Society. Survivor Breakfast will be held at 8:30am at the Scout Hut. 8:30 to 9:30 is registration with Guest Speaker and ceremony honoring survivors to follow.
